HaloGAF Customs – Halo 4 – 10/5/13

Thanks to everyone that joined in the Halo 3 customs last week. Sadly the party wasn’t as populated as I had hoped it would be. I think it might be a good idea to try it again when the game goes free this month on Xbox Live. In the mean time, this Saturday October 5 at 9PM Eastern, let’s get on for some Halo 4.

There’s no real theme for this week’s customs so we’ll just play some standard stuff and some wacky stuff. Again, all are welcome. It doesn’t matter if you’re amazing at Halo or really terrible. JOIN US.
Hope to see you there!

HaloGAF Customs – Halo 3’s Anniversary Party

Hey all!

Today marks 6 years since the release of Halo 3.

I think we all remember what an amazing game Halo 3 is. That was also a time when HaloGAF Customs were the most active they probably ever were. I thought that for this Saturday, we could all pop in Halo 3 and spend the night on there.

So, on Saturday, September 28th at 9PM Eastern, dust off that copy of Halo 3 and join the rest of HaloGAF in what’s sure to be a fun night. It’s 2013 so please make sure you have all of the DLC maps.

HaloGAF Customs – The Return member review

Hey all!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that joined up in the HaloGAF Customs return. It was great to get a full party going and go nuts slaying each other. Here’s what some of HaloGAF had to say about HaloGAF Customs last week and going forward.

Tashi: Let’s get the most important question out of the way first. What did you all think of Hypertrooper’s singing?

gAg CruSh3r: Crazy o.O…I was a little scared.

nillapuddin: Special, it was very special. I’m sure his teammates weren’t too thrilled with his vocal or gameplay performance. But at the end of the day, he was having fun, and so was everyone else; no harm no foul

YourExWife: HE WAS *SINGING*!?

Tashi: What did you think of the customs night experience overall?

gAg CruSh3r: It was great! Even though I played for a hour and half.

I had a ton of fun, it’s been a while since I played in a big customs group, good to hear a buncha the guys that I talk to on the forum with. I was incredibly flattered to see people ask to play maps I made without knowing I was the creator, always makes me laugh. The competition was unfair at times, but its very difficult to balance teams throughout such a variety of game types and maps, everyone plays differently. I thought the variety was good, we didn’t descend too deep into really “childish” customs games but still played some fun gametypes. You and then ExWife were good hosts to everyone.

YourExWife: It was really fun and made for a good time. It was neat to get a chance to play with some people from the community that I hadn’t before. Gun Game is still amazing and Ricochet works pretty well on some maps that aren’t currently in the playlist.

Tashi: What would you like to see for next Saturday’s customs night?

gAg CruSh3r: I would like to see more even teams. Maybe what we could do is start a FFA in the beginning of the HaloGAF community play date to determine who is a good player or who has not been playing in a while. Setting up the team evenly makes a more enjoyable gameplay IMO.

I guess if anything, I would just hope we do a better job of balancing players. I often felt bad and tried to hold myself back from playing too aggressively when I could tell we had far more talent, even conceding some objective points purposefully to extend the games. I also think that if we mixed in a few more non-traditional games it would help alleviate some of the fatigue or frustration if one team is being outmatched, the better teams will always win, but if you throw a (ex: basketball) in there every now and again, it feels like its not so determined on no scope headshots. The same could be said though for playing games other than Slayer, which is so score dependent. I would think out of every 5 matches for example, 2 could be Slayer oriented, 2 Objective, and 1 non-traditional.

We need to figure out a way to better balance teams. Some games were just blowouts and not fun for either side. Other than that, new gametypes and maps are always welcome! I really want to try out the assault gametype that someone made.

Tashi: Glad to see you guys had fun. We definitely need to do a better job of sorting teams it seems. I think that once everyone gets familiar with each others skill levels, we’ll be able to balance teams properly.

I hope you all will join us on Saturday, September 21st for HaloGAF Customs. Again, all are welcome no matter the skill level and if you haven’t played in months.

HaloGAF Game Night: The Return (9/14/13)

It’s been way too long since we’ve gathered for a game night. For those who don’t know, HaloGAF used to play customs together every Saturday. In the past, there would be so many people on and playing that there would be multiple parties filled with 16 players. It was a great time for all. Obviously things aren’t what they once were and it would probably be tough to fill even one lobby of 16. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try and play though.

I’m proposing that next Saturday night, September the 14th at around 9PM Eastern, HaloGAF reunites to play the new Halo 4 gametype Ricochet together. If successful then it could certainly be a weekly thing where we mix up gametypes, maps and things of that nature. I would say that Ricochet is a good start however. I’ll see what I can dig up from the Forge community as far as cool and interesting Ricochet maps and gametypes are concerned.

All are invited! It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played in months, are not very skilled or are extremely good at Halo 4.

Some of us have streaming capabilities so that can provide a viewing experience for those unable to play but would like to still participate. Either post in the threads, comment here and leave feedback on Twitter.
